(BEDFORD) - Kyle Brown, chief professional officer of the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence County, recognizing a Boy of the Year and Girl of the Year in July 2013.
Girl of the Year for 2012 was 13-year-old MaKayla Reid, who joined the club in 2011 when her family moved to Bedford. The daughter of Jimmie and Tabitha Reid, she played volleyball, basketball and was active in the after-school program and a member of the teen program.
MaKayla was known for helping younger members with their homework and encouraging everyone to get along. Her family has since moved from the area, but with her positive attitude and warm smile, she left a lasting impression on the club.
The 2012 Boy of the Year was J.T. Ernst. Ernst wasn't able to be present, but his parents Jimmy Ernst and Karen Crulo accepted the award on his behalf.
Ernst joined the club in 2000. Ernst played basketball, baseball and football at the Boys Club, was a member of the Americorps staff and was the 2013 Lilly Scholar for Lawrence County. At BNL, he was class salutatorian, a member of student council, National Honor Society, Renaissance and Beta Club.
