(BLOOMINGTON) - Indiana University officials are reviewing their emergency preparedness after tragic events at Purdue University left one person dead.
At Purdue, student alerts, calls and tweets flew across airwaves, and a suspect in the shooting was arrested within minutes of police responding
But despite Purdue's preparation, training and protocol implemented one person still lost their life. Officials say there is no way to prepare for such a tragedy.
IU Spokesman Mark Land says IU's emergency plan is similar to those implemented at other schools and colleges across the nation.
IU's emergency response relies heavily on IU-Notify, a service that sends messages to students and faculty through text messages, emails and phone calls. These messages come from the police as soon as they are received, then are transferred to people on campus immediately.
Faculty members are responsible for students in their classrooms or lecture halls. Students would be asked to stay in where they are if they felt safe and to lock or barricade doors.
The goal - is to get students to safety.
