(HELTONVILLE) - A Heltonville man was arrested after woman called police screaming for help.
According to Lawrence County Chief Deputy Mike Branham, 32-year-old Christopher Meadows is facing 15 charges from strangulation to resisting arrest.
On Thursday at 3:33 p.m. a woman dialed 911 and when the dispatcher answered she began screaming for help. She told police that Meadows had injured her and now he was sitting in the driveway in a white Durango. Then Meadows re-entered the home, took the phone from the woman and destroyed it.
As police were on their way to the home, in the 7600 block of Ind. 58, they spotted the Druango. Meadows ran a stop sign and officers attempted to stop the vehicle. After a short distance. Meadows stopped on Ind. 446 just north of Ind. 58.
As officers approached the vehicle, Branham says Meadows became belligerent. After repeated request to exit the vehicle, Meadows put the Durango in reverse and attempted to crash into the police car. Officers again asked Meadows to stop and get out of the vehicle. As Meadows exited the Durango, he balled his fist and came after the officer. Branham says that is when the officer deployed his Taser.
At the home, Branham says, officers discovered Meadows had injured three women and one man by pushing, grabbing, hitting and strangling one. The violence happened in front of three children under the age of 16. None of the children were injured but the Department of Child Services was notified.
Pleasant Run Volunteer Fire Department and an IU Health Hospital medical crew responded to the home to treat the injured adults and to evaluate Meadows.
Meadows is facing charges of strangulation, Class D felony; domestic battery in the presence of a minor less than 16, Class D felony; resisting law enforcement with a motor vehicle, Class D felony; resisting arrest by force with a motor vehicle, Class D felony; two charges of battery resulting inbodily injury, Class A misdemeanor; resisting arrest by fleeing, Class A misdemeanor; four charges of intimidation, Class A misdemeanor; interfering with the reporting of a crime, Class A misdemeanor; two charges of battery, Class B misdemeanor; and disorderly conduct, Class B misdemeanor.
