Last updated on Wednesday, January 29, 2014

(LYONS) - An investigator from the State Fire Marshal’s office was at the site of a fire damaged home Monday.

The home, owned by Gale and Jeanette Pittman, on South County Road 800 West, two miles north of Lyons, was heavily damaged in a fire Saturday.

According to Fairplay-Grant Fire Department Chief Brian Woodall the fire marshal listed the cause of the blaze as unknown.

The Greene County Daily World reports, when firefighters arrived at the home at 7:05 p.m. flames were shooting out of the southwest corner of the one-story wood framed home.

Jeanette Pittman was home when the fire started, but was able to escape without injury.

Firefighters from the Linton Fire Department, Lyons-Washington Township Fire Department and the Worthington Fire Territory fought the fire alongside the Fairplay-Grant firefighters for about three hours before containing the blaze.

Chief Woodall says there was heavy interior damage to the west side of the home and some exterior damage on the southwest side, where the fire is believed to have started.
