Fire Causes Minimal Damage To Home And Carport

Last updated on Wednesday, January 15, 2014

(BEDFORD) - A house fire at 1819 G Street this morning caused minimal damage.

According to Bedford Fire Department Battalion Chief Stephen Haverly, firefighters were notified about the fire when a school bus driver noticed the blaze and then notified the school system, who called firefighters.

"The fire was under the carport and adjacent to the home," Haverly says. "There were a lot of items stacked under that carport. The cause of the fire is under investigation."

Haverly says the home is owned by Fred Bruhy, but was being rented by Tom Rollins.

Rollins was at home when the fire started.

"They were sleeping and heard a loud noise like someone banging, it was probably the popping from the fire," Haverly says.

The items under the carport were damaged along with the ceiling of the carport and there was some damage to the exterior wall of the home.

"There was some smoke in the home, but no fire damage," Haverly says
