City Approves Designated Area For Facade Project

Last updated on Friday, January 17, 2014

(BEDFORD) - Trena Carter of Administrative Resources association asked Bedford City council members Tuesday to approve the designated area to be enhanced by a proposed downtown facade that will be funded through the Stellar Award.

Carter says the designation is the first step toward application of a planning grant through Indiana's Office of Community and Rural Affairs.

Six engineering firms applied for the right to head the facade project. Four were interviewed and Rowland Design, Inc. from Indianapolis was chosen.

The city has received 35 letters of intent regarding participation in the 80/20 match opportunity for facade enhancement available to property owners within the designated area. Carter noted owners can still opt out once Roland analyzes their properties and specifies dollar estimates.

Marla Jones, who is heading up the Stellar projects, says funds will be distributed on a needs basis and no enhancements will be undertaken on properties lacking structural integrity.
