Broomstick Lace Workshop Jan. 30 At Spring Mill State Park

Last updated on Wednesday, January 22, 2014

(MITCHELL) - Spring Mill State Park will have a broomstick lace workshop Jan. 30, where participants will learn the historic crochet technique.

Broomstick lace is also known as jiffy lace or peacock lace. It has been done since the 1800s, using a crochet hook and another instrument, such as a large knitting needle or dowel rod. Traditionally, a broomstick was used, which is where the name originated.

The workshop starts at 10:30 a.m. All supplies are provided, including enough yarn to make a lap afghan. Lunch also is provided with the workshop in the Millstone Dining Room at Spring Mill Inn.

Only 15 spots are available for the lace-making class. Pre-registration is required by Jan. 27 for those who wish to attend.

The cost is $35 per person. To register, call the inn at 849-4081. More information is available by sending an email to springmillstatepark@dnr.in.gov.
