Bedford Woman Facing Theft Charges In Greene County

Last updated on Thursday, January 23, 2014

(BLOOMFIELD) - 38-year-old Lisa McPherson of Bedford is facing criminal charges in Greene County.

McPherson was arrested in Bedford but is now in the Greene County Jail after allegedly stealing a couple of packs of cigarettes and leaving the Hasler Junction convenience store without paying for her gas. The crime happened on October 14.

According to a probable cause affidavit, McPherson allegedly stopped for gas at Hasler's, located south of Bloomfield on State Road 58 just east of US Highway 231. After pumping $13.01 worth of gas into her red Jeep Cherokee, McPherson entered the store, asked for two packs of Camel Menthol cigarettes and wanted to pay for the items with a check that was already completely filled out in the amount of $130.

The check was written on another person's account. McPherson claimed it was her husband's check. A clerk ran the check four or five times but the store's check machine would not accept it.

McPherson then tried to get the clerk to accept another check that was already written out for $50. The clerk refused saying if the machine wouldn't clear the first check, it wouldn't the second.

While the clerk was helping another customer, McPherson allegedly grabbed the cigarettes and fled the store.

The clerk contacted police reporting that McPherson had said she was from Bedford.

The Lawrence County Sheriff's Department was contacted, who told police, McPherson was wanted on two warrants for petition to revoke probation in Lawrence County and they would attempt to find her.

Awhile later, a Lawrence County officer stopped McPherson's vehicle. During that stop, police found drugs in McPherson's vehicle. Police also found the stolen cigarettes. She was charged in Lawernce County for possession of a schedule I controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a syringe.

When she appears in court in Greene County for her initial hearing this week she will be charged with theft.
