Accident Claims Life, Two Injured

(LINTON) - A three-vehicle accident on State Road 54, just east of County Road 800 West, between Switz city and Linton claimed the life of 51-year-old Phillip K. Reynolds of Linton on Wednesday.

Deputy Coroner Carol Williams says Reynolds was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident that happened just before 7 a.m.

Dr. Roldan Kohr will perform an autopsy at Regional Hospital in Terre Haute on Thursday at 10 a.m.

According to the coroner's office, Reynolds was on his way to work at the time of the crash.

Two other individuals were injured and transported to hospitals.

Lisa M. Shafer, 48, of Odon, suffered serious bodily injury and was transported to Greene County General Hospital by the Greene County Ambulance Service.

Todd W. Bennett, 19, of Linton, also suffered serious bodily injury and was first transported to Greene County General Hospital by the Greene County Ambulance Service, then was flown to Eskenazi Health in Indianapolis.

According to the Greene County Sheriff's Department, the crash occurred at 6:15 a.m. Wednesday. The lead investigators, GCSD Detective George Dallaire and Deputy Bobby Pierce are working with an Indiana State Police reconstruction team investigating the crash. GCSD Major Mike Hasler says officials expect to release more details about the crash soon.This is what police are confirming so far.

Reynolds was operating a black 1992 Chevrolet pickup truck.

Shafer was operating a silver 2011 Dodge Avenger passenger car.

Bennett was operating a blue 2001 Chevrolet pickup truck.

State Road 54 in the area of the crash was closed to traffic for most of the day and was re-opened to traffic shortly before 3 p.m.

Assisting at the scene were the Indiana State Police, the Switz City Fire Department, Linton Rescue, Greene County Ambulance Service and the Greene County Coroner's Office.
