Last updated on Monday, January 6, 2014

(BEDFORD) - Bedford resident promises the 25th Dr. Martin Luther King March for Unity community celebration will be special this year.

The event is Sunday, January 19 at 2 p.m. inside the Lawrence County Courthouse.

Former lieutenant governor Becky Skillman, former mayor John Williams, and Dominique McBryde, a key player on Bedford North Lawrence High School's top-ranked girls basketball team will be addressing the crowd.

Bedford resident Clarence Brown, who organizes the event, is encouraging newcomers to join the March for Unity because the march is not just about race or culture, but about uniting people of a community.

The customary march around the courthouse square should commence at approximately 2:30 p.m., and St. Vincent's bells will toll 25 times to commemorate the landmark anniversary.

At the conclusion of the march the group will reassemble for a program at River's Edge Fellowship Church, 2900 35th St., where Pastor Phil Thorne will host a celebration of Dr. King's message.
