Last updated on Thursday, December 5, 2013

(WASHINGTON) - East Side Park is lit for Christmas.

Washington Park Superintendent Mike McLemore says that to enhance the effect of the Christmas lights and displays, the overhead lights on the parking lot have been turned off.

He asks that while visiting the park to enjoy the lights, you reduce your speed and drive carefully, and watch for pedestrians. The park will also broadcast Christmas music for you to enjoy on your trip through the park on 87.5 FM

The annual Christmas in the Park is scheduled for two consecutive Thursday nights; December 12 and 19, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. both nights. The event is free to the public.

At the Community Building, Santa's helpers will be serving hot chocolate, coffee, juice and cookies. Parents can take photos while children visit with Santa.

Everyone is welcome to ride the Christmas Train or take a carriage ride through the Park to enjoy the lights.

Bethany Christian Church will provide Carolers to energize the Christmas Spirit.

While waiting to ride or visit Santa, children will have the opportunity to make their own Christmas Tree ornament. The City of Washington invites everyone to Christmas in the Park.

Then on Saturday the 2013 Daviess County Christmas Parade will step off at 3 p.m. from Washington High School.

The theme for this year's parade is the Magical Sound of Christmas. Several other activities are scheduled in downtown Washington for Saturday.

The Daviess County Christmas Parade is being organized by the City of Washington and the Daviess County Chamber of Commerce.

Groups and individuals wanting to be part of the Christmas Parade should contact the office of Washington Mayor's Office.
