Last updated on Thursday, December 19, 2013

(MITCHELL) - Celebrate the first day of winter during a special Christmas event on Saturday at Spring Mill State Park’s Pioneer Village.

The celebration runs from 2 p.m. till 8 p.m.

Visitors are invited to stroll through the village as volunteers decorate trees, dip candles and prepare for an 1800's holiday season.

Visitors can also follow luminaries to find Father Christmas, tell him their holiday wishes and receive candy canes. Wassail and cookies will be served in the Tavern. Other activities include helping decorate the gristmill's tree, making ornaments, and shopping for handmade gifts by village artisans at the Village Mercantile.

The event will be canceled in case of bad weather and will not be rescheduled.
