Snow Storms Take Toll On Salvation Army Red Kettle Donations

Last updated on Wednesday, December 18, 2013

(BEDFORD) - The last few snowstorms and frigid temperatures have taken a toll on Lawrence County’s Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign.

Salvation Army Capt. Donna Rose says they have collected more than $13,800 but that is not close to their goal of $45,000.

"Between not having enough bell ringers or they couldn't get out because of the weather and shoppers not able to get out because of the weather we're up against a real dilemma," Ross says. "The funds are used to help the less fortunate in the county."

Rose suggested donors consider mailing their contribution if they are not able to get out to the kettles.

Checks can be sent to: The Salvation Army, P.O. Box 94, Bedford, IN 47421.

Rose also wanted to remind the community that the target date for returning Angel Tree gifts is Saturday.

"However we will accept the gifts through Christmas Eve," she added.

Angel Trees are located at ACE Hardware / Ben Franklin in Mitchell, Kmart, Walmart and Starbucks in Bedford.

Return Angel Tree gifts to the store where you pulled the tag or drop them off at The Salvation Army, 1629 K St., Bedford.

She is also looking for volunteer the week of Christmas. If you're interested in helping call the Salvation Army.
