Seymour Facing Shortage Of Manpower After Officers Resign

Last updated on Monday, December 2, 2013

(SEYMOUR) - Seymour Police Department is experiencing a shortage in manpower with the recent resignations of three officers.

Probationary officers Brandon Polbito and Trevor Giles, both hired in August, quit this month. Ian McPherson, a 10-year veteran of the force and former K9 officer, also resigned.

Polbito's resignation is the result of a prior back injury that limited his ability to perform his duties as an officer, and Giles accepted an out-of-state job offer not related to law enforcement, Police Chief Bill Abbott said. McPherson left for personal reasons, Abbott said.

Abbott said he doesn't think the turnover is affecting patrol coverage and investigations at this time, but it could if the department were to lose anyone else.
