Salem True Value Becoming Ace Hardware

Last updated on Wednesday, December 18, 2013

(SALEM) - The Leader Democrate reports that a long-time community business in Salem is changing names. Salem True Value Hardware will become Ace Hardware of Salem, effective January 2.

Co-owner Bob Strange says the business is getting a makeover, but with the same people at the same place, but with a new name. Other partners in the store are Strange's sons Terry Strange and Gary Strange and son-in-law Todd Hazelip, who is store manager.

He stressed there were no problems with True Value, but Ace is a bigger organization and fits more with the owner's vision and objectives, with customer service and family values remaining a high priority.

Salem True Value opened its doors in Washington County in 1969. Strange and his family bought the business from Tony and Jeannette Nolan in 1996 and in 2003 moved from West Market Street to the current location on Mulberry Street.

As Ace Hardware of Salem, the store will begin carrying Craftman brand products along with Clark and Kensington paints and primer in one. Ace will also carry Stihl outdoor power equipment, Carhartt apparel and boots and a full tool rental department.

The store will remain open without uninterrupted service throughout the transition, which will be completed by March.
