Police Seeking Tips On Man Who Took Money From Pekin Restaurant

Last updated on Thursday, December 12, 2013

(PEKIN) - Police are continuing their investigation of the robbery of a Pekin restaurant, which occurred last week.

Captain Roger Newlon of the Washington County Sheriff's Department says he received a call from Waitress Stephanie Atkins who reported, a man came in and asked to use the restroom.

The man then left.

Once the sole customer in the restaurant had left and was pulling out of the parking lot, the man came back in.

He asked Atkins to change a large bill for him. As she opened the register, he reached across the counter and grabbed a fistful of cash.

Newlon says Atkins slammed the register drawer hard enough to knock items off the counter, but the thief had a firm grip on the money and fled on foot.

Atkins yelled for owner Gary Deavers, who ran after the man. But the man disappeared.

Newlon say police have a good physical description and the investigation is continuing. Any one with information about the incident is asked to call police.
