(PAOLI) - Orange County Players will celebrate the 20th year of offering a yuletide madrigal on Dec. 5, 6 and 7 with performances at Paoli First Presbyterian Church.
Performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. and include the traditional madrigal feast as well as the holiday concert. Gary Spear will direct.
"OCP has spent almost 40 years creating traditions for the local community including summer musical performances, children's theater productions and yuletide madrigal dinners," said Orange County Players' Artistic Director Larry Hollan.
Orange County Players' stated mission is "to promote participation in, and the enjoyment of, the visual/performing arts and to encourage the development of excellence in these arts.
Orange County Players brings together performing artists of different age groups with different perspectives for the purpose of creating quality entertainment for the community. Participants gain a sense of achievement, self-confidence, and pride."
"OCP fulfills its mission through the yuletide madrigal," noted Hollan. "The focus is on quality, while producing performances involving various art forms with folks of different ages and perspectives."
"Orange County Players' madrigal lends authenticity to the season with period costumes, traditional holiday food, and medieval music performed by members of the cast," Spear said.
Singing in OCP's madrigal this year are sopranos Megan Foye, Anna Kemple, Jodi McGowen, Joyce Pearson, Sarah Ralston, Lesley Slaughter, Hannah Thill and Kendra Moon Mathes.
Altos for this year's madrigal season include Kim Anderson, Karie Becht, Olivia Becht, Carrie Ingram, Julia Johnson, Jocelyn Schlegel, Maria Wishart, Ellen Underwood and Mary Mininger.
Tenors singing in the madrigal are Steve Corp, Duane Davis, Kate Henderson and Adam Roberts. The bass section features Dennis Blythe, Howard Detweiler, Hollan, Mike Johnson, Chase Meehan and Jake Parsley. Casey Foye, as jester, will set the pace for the evening and prepare the audience for what will happen next.
The madrigal concert will feature traditional 14th and 15th century music including "Magnificat," "Good Christian Men Rejoice," "If Ye Love Me," "Coventry Carol," "Ding Dong Merrily on High," "In the Bleak Midwinter," "O Come, O Come Emmanuel," "Hallowed" and "The First Nowell."
Paoli First Presbyterian Church will cater the authentic medieval meal, including salad, pork loin, apple-raisin dressing, new potatoes, green beans with almonds, bread and date cake. Madrigal tickets will cost $15 per person again this year and ticket reservations are required for all performances.
