(OOLITIC) - Oolitic Town Council President Delvin Nikirk is asked Oolitic residents to fill out the United State Postal Service survey being sent to residents.

The postal service is attempting to determine if they will be cutting hours at the post office in an attempt to save money.

Nikirk is hoping Oolitic residents will read the letters and fill out the survey and return it to the postal service.

Mary Dando, communications specialist for the USPS greater Indiana region, says the Oolitic Post Office will not close, but might reduce hours to being open only certain hours a day. Dando says the cut in hours will ensure the post office will stay open and will be more cost efficient.

Dando says customers will still have access to the retail lobby and post office boxes will not change.

Nikirk says residents are being asked to attend a meeting on January 15th at 5 p.m. to discuss the results of the surveys and other options regarding the post office.

Nikirk says one option on the survey is setting up a village post office in Oolitic, but that would be only as an extension of services and not as substitute for the post office.
