Mother And Daughter Arrested After Stealing Thousands In Clothes From Kohl's

Last updated on Wednesday, December 11, 2013

(BLOOMINGTON) - Police arrested a Gosport woman after a security officer at Kohl’s reported finding her shoplifting from the store Monday.

The woman's mother was also arrested after police say they found more than $3,000 worth of stolen items in the trunk of her Dodge Dart.

Bloomington Police Department Sgt. Joe Crider says the mother and daughter duo attempted to steal clothes and other items from Target and Kohl's before they were caught by a loss prevention officer and arrested by police.

On Saturday, 66-year-old Sandra Kelley and her daughter, 43-year-old Jennifer Sadler, went to Target, where they stole $318.44 worth of merchandise.

They then drove to Kohl's and stole more items.

According to Sgt. Crider, on Monday around 2 p.m., a loss prevention officer at Kohl's saw Sadler taking items and placing them in a plastic bag. Kelley, who was also in the store, then went outside to their car.

According to police, Kelley took items that had been stolen and moved them from the passenger seat of the vehicle to the trunk. She then drove her car to the fire lane near the store, where police stopped her.

Sadler, who was still inside the store, put on a coat and walked out of the store without paying for any of the items she had placed in the bag. She too was stopped by police as she exited the store.

Police found the tag to the coat that Sadler had pulled off before putting it on.

Kelly told police that she knew her daughter was stealing items from the stores, but she did not participate. She also told police she had brought her daughter back to the stores to return the stolen items.

However police say Kelley never intended to return the items but instead put them in her trunk.

The value of the items taken from Kohl's during the two days was estimated at more than $3,090.

Kelley is facing charges of receiving and possession of stolen property and Sadler was charged with theft or larceny.

Sadler told police she did not steal items from the stores and that she was at Kohl's to return two shirts.
