Man Killed In House Fire Identified

Last updated on Friday, December 20, 2013

(EAST OOLITIC) - According to Lawrence County Coroner Rob Herr, 48-year-old Dennis W. Davis, Jr., of East Oolitic, died Saturday morning when his house caught on fire.

Herr says a forensic exam was conducted and last night experts were able to determine through medical and dental records that Davis was the person killed in the fire.

Shawswick Volunteer Fire Department Chief Bobby Brown says it could take as long as a month to get the findings from the State Fire Marshal's office on what caused the fatal fire Saturday morning in East Oolitic.

More than 15 firefighters from Shawswick and Oolitic battled the blaze at 2:44 a.m. at the ranch-style home at 661 East Oolitic Road at 2:44 a.m.

Chief Brown says flames were shooting through the roof and walls of the home when firefighters arrived.

Firefighters went into defensive mode and once the fire was out they discovered Davis' body.
