Last updated on Thursday, December 19, 2013

(PETERSBURG) - A joint man-hunt for a possibly suicidal man by the Daviess and Pike County Sheriff’s Departments ended successfully Tuesday evening.

Around 7:15 p.m., the Daviess County Sheriff's Department received a call reporting that 34 year old Richard Alan Miller of Tennyson, was driving a white Chevy Blazer, and was intoxicated, and possibly suicidal.

Miller was reported to be in the White River bottoms area along State Road 57, north of Petersburg. During the search, area residents were notified to take precautions and lock their parked vehicles, houses, and out-buildings.

At 7:31 p.m. the Indiana State Police reported Miller had been located in the area of County Road 600 South and State Road 57.

Pike County deputies had Miller stopped but he refused to get out of the car. Miller fled and police pursued him through the river bottoms toward the East Fork of the White River.

A little after 8 p.m. Daviess County deputies, who were on foot, located Miller and he was arrested.

Miller was taken by Southwest Ambulance to the Daviess Community Hospital for evaluation and treatment.

His vehicle was turned over to family members.

After treatment at the hospital, Miller was taken to the Daviess County Security Center, where he was arrested on a warrant from Vanderburgh County, and on new charges of resisting law enforcement and operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
