(JASONVILLE) - The Summerville Church on County Road 545 West in the Jasonville area suffered disturbing damage.
One man was arrested on the scene and was scheduled to appear in Greene Superior Court Friday morning.
45-year-old Donald Ray Brashear, of Pleasantville, is facing more criminal charges - accused of resisting law enforcement and battery by bodily waste on an officer stemming from an incident that occurred inside the jail.
Greene County Sheriff's Deputies and a Jasonville Police officer went to the church at 4:29 a.m. November 27. When a passerby noticed the lights were on, the door was open, that the church appeared to have been "ransacked."
Officers found the lights on, the door forced open, a pane of glass removed from a screen door, a broken door jamb, tables stacked on top of one another, and windows opened and tissues removed from tissue boxes and stuck in window panes.
There was also a red liquid, later determined to be cranberry juice tossed on floors, walls, table tops and chairs. Pictures on the walls were torn off and broken along with other decorations and documents.
The officers reported the worship area had been destroyed. The podium had been busted into several pieces and the stage was in disarray. Hand sanitizer had been smeared on church pews and Bibles had been torn apart, their pages thrown around the room.
They found Brashear lying face down on a pile of maps he had torn from the wall.
The pastor told police numerous items were missing from the church, including a public address system.
Brashear was uncooperative when arrested and taken to jail.
Police did find the PA system and returned it to the church, but other items are still missing.
Officers were then called back to the jail after Brashear became unruly with jail officials. When deputies arrived Brashear refused to cooperate and a scuffle incurred and Brashear allegedly spit on one of the deputy.
So two initial hearings were scheduled on Friday.
In one, Brashear was charged with: burglary, theft, intimidation and criminal mischief. In the second, he was charged with resisting law enforcement and battery by bodily waste on a law enforcement officer.
