(LINTON) - A Linton man is being summoned to appear in court on a preliminary charge of cruelty to an animal.
Levi Moss will be charged with the class A misdemeanor in Greene Superior Court.
According to Linton's Animal Control Officer Chuck Botsford, he received a complaint about possible animal abuse at a home on South West D Street in Linton.
Botsford investigated and found a dog that was severely underfed. He took the dog to the Linton Police Department so an officer could see the condition of the dog. The dog was then taken to the Greene County Humane Society and was evaluated by Veterinarian Dr. Scott Royer.
Dr. Royer told police the dog would have starved to death within a couple of weeks. The dog also suffered from flea bites on its shoulder blades and left side of its face, was covered in scabs, had pale gums and very long toenails and tar -colored stool.
Police spoke to Moss, the dog's owner. Moss told police the dog had not been eating and that he had tried different foods and even table scraps but the dog wouldn't eat. A family friend, who had been feeding the dog while Moss was away for a couple of days before the dog was seized, did not feed the dog. Moss told police he was going to take the dog but just didn't have the money.
Moss is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 24.
