ISP Has Not Commented On Purchase Of Device To Eavesdrop On Cell Phone Calls

(UNDATED) - So far, the Indiana State Police have not commented on published reports that they have purchased a nearly $400,000 device for eavesdropping on or tracking the incoming and outgoing texts and phone calls of mobilephones.

The Indianapolis Star reports a surveillance vehicle equipped with the monitoring device can drive into a heavily populated area and still be able to track the movements and calls of cell phones nearby.

Reportedly ISP believe the special device can be an important tool in combating terrorism or fighting crime, but civil libertarians may not be so sure there will not be abuse of the technology.
