Cause Of Fatal Fire Still Under Investigation

Last updated on Monday, December 16, 2013

(EAST OOLITIC) - Shawswick Volunteer Fire Department Chief Bobby Brown says it could take as long as a month to get the findings from the State Fire Marshal’s office on what caused the fatal fire Saturday morning in East Oolitic.

More than 15 firefighters from Shawswick and Oolitic battled the blaze at 2:44 a.m. at the ranch-style home at 661 East Oolitic Road at 2:44 a.m.

Chief Brown says flames were shooting through the roof and walls of the home when firefighters arrived.

Firefighters went into defensive mode and once the fire was out they discovered the body.

Lawrence County Coroner Rob Herr says a forensic exam was conducted Saturday and officials are waiting to receive medical records to make a positive identification.
