Bedford To Receive Three New TASC Buses

Last updated on Tuesday, December 3, 2013

(BEDFORD) - Bedford’s TASC service will be receiving three new buses thanks to an increase of funds through the American Recover and Reinvestment Act Grant Funds.

TASC Director Melonie Hacker told the Board of Works members, the city will receive $146,895 to purchase the buses. There is no required match from the city to receive the funds.

"This reflects the confidence of the state in our TASC bus program," says Mayor Shawna Girgis.

* The board also opened statements of qualifications for the Stellar Façade Restoration Grant proposal projects utilizing Community Development Block Grant funds.

The city received statements from:

* Prince Alexander Inc., of Indianapolis

* Christine Mathew Architect, of Bloomington.

* Ratio Architect, of Indianapolis

* Roland Design, of Indianapolis

* DLZ Architect, of Indianapolis.

Under the state's Stellar Community grant program, the city could see an investment of some $19 million -- about $11 million in state and federal grants and about $8 million from various other sources -- to renovate and revitalize the downtown.

A five-member committee will now review the proposals and score the proposals.

The committee includes Girgis; Dan Kirk, the city's planning department and street department director; Jamie Medlock, president of the Bedford Area Chamber of Commerce; and Marla Jones and Susan Gales, who have been working on the Stellar project for months.

* The board also approved a change order of $3,420 so Duke Energy can relocate a utility service pole to the northeast corner of SAMCO.
