(WASHINGTON) - It's been a year since I-69 opened in Southwest Indiana and plans are in place on how to use the land around one of the major interchanges.
American Structure Point is a consultant for the city of Washington and they have recommended the area around the I69/US 50 on and off ramps is a good location for light industry, commercial development, single and multiple family housing as well as duplexes and condos.
A good crowd was on hand Thursday for a public hearing on the proposed Land Use Plan which will now be submitted to Washington's planning commission for approval.
If it's approved it will move onto the city council who can put the plan in an amendment to the city's Comprehensive Land Use Plan.
Mayor Joe Wellman says the recommendations for the 2300 acres around the interchange are a proposal and nothing is carved in stone.
