(UNDATED) - Indiana State Police and local officers have begun extra Thanksgiving holiday patrols.

It's all a part of the annual Safe Family Traveling campaign which continues through December 1.

Police will be conducting high visibility enforcement efforts, including sobriety check points and saturation patrols targeting impaired drivers and motorists not wearing their seat belts.

State Police say last year, alcohol-impaired driving was linked to 150 fatalities in the state, and over 2,112 injuries.

Police are asking motorists to do their part to ensure a safe Thanksgiving Holiday travel period. That includes making sure you are well rested, as they say a tired driver is a dangerous driver and avoid travelling too closely to the vehicle in front of you, follow speed limits, put away electronic devices, move over and slow down for emergency vehicles and don't drink and drive.
