(BEDFORD) - Sherry Haley, who has been the school crossing guard at 16th Street and Brian LaneWay near Parkview schools for 17 years, has retired.

Sherry is the wife of former Police Major Steve Haley, who retired this year after 43 years of service as an officer and dispatcher.

Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley says Haley had done a remarkable job of keeping "her children" safe and presented a plaque to Haley Thursday recognizing her service.

Parsley says officers and students will miss Haley.
