(UNDATED) - Rep. Todd Young (R-IN9) announced that 9th District staff members are scheduling interviews for Hoosier Veteran Voices, a program in conjunction with the Library of Congress’ Veterans History Project to record and preserve the personal narratives of wartime veterans.
"Like all Americans, I have a deep appreciation for the great sacrifices our wartime veterans have made for this country," said Young. "Their service to our nation is the reason we enjoy the freedoms we all cherish. Since their timeless stories are essential to inspiring and fostering the patriotic appreciation of future generations, it is important that we record the stories so that they might be passed on. As a former Captain in the U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Representative, I am proud to play a small part in preserving the voices of our Hoosier veterans."
The mission of the Veterans History Project is to collect, preserve, and make accessible the personal accounts of America's wartime veterans so that future generations may hear directly from veterans and better understand the realities of war. To contribute to this mission, staff members at any 9th District Constituent Service Center will be available to record the stories of veterans living in the district, which will then be sent to the Library of Congress to be permanently stored in their digital archives.
To be eligible for an interview, veterans must have served as active duty military personnel or been reservists called to active duty during World War I, World War II, the Korean War, Vietnam War, Persian Gulf War (1990-1995), or the Afghanistan and Iraq conflicts (2001-present). They also must be retired or honorably discharged from a branch of the United States Armed Forces.
Those interested in having their unique story sent to the Library of Congress, or those with questions regarding the Hoosier Veteran Voices program, should contact their Jeffersonville Constituent Service Center at 812-288-3999. On account of staffing limitations, interviews must be scheduled in advance, and cannot be done on a "walk-in" basis. More information can be found at toddyoung.house.gov/hoosier-veteran-voices.
Indiana's 9th District includes all or parts of Brown, Clark, Crawford, Floyd, Harrison, Jackson, Johnson Lawrence, Monroe, Morgan, Orange, Scott, and Washington Counties in south central Indiana.
