(BEDFORD) - Three people were arrested early Sunday morning after two of them entered the Steak & Shake on James Avenue armed with a weapon and stole more than $3,200.
According to Bedford Police Assistant Chief Joe DeWees two men wearing masked entered the establishment just before 3:22 a.m. Sunday.
"The two men were wearing masks and displayed what employees believed was a gun and threatened them," DeWees says. "They took the manager to the back room and that is when one of the witnesses was able to call police."
The two fled the restaurant before police arrived.
"A witness saw them run to a vehicle parked at the Quality Inn and then drive from the area," DeWees says.
The vehicle was a red Dodge Neon and police put out an alert for area officers to be on the look out.
"One witness was able to follow the vehicle and give us a good location on where the vehicle was," DeWees says. "We also had a good idea who the men were because at least two of those involved had worked at the restaurant."
Officers went to several locations looking for the vehicle.
According to the police log, officers searched an area in the 700 block of V Street and the 800 block of Smith Avenue. Lawrence County Police then located the vehicle in the 4600 block of West Popcorn Road where they found two of the suspects.
Lawrence County officers transported a 17-year-old female and 18-year-old Damon Meeks, of 1925 Central Ave., back to the Bedford Police Department for questioning.
Bedford officers then went to the apartment buildings on Ted Jones Drive and found 18-year-old Tyler Stailey, of 3108 Ted Jones Drive.
After questioning and recovering all the money police arrested all three.
Meeks and Staley are charged with armed robbery with a deadly weapon and intimidation with a deadly weapon.
The 17-year-old female of Springville, was charged with conspiracy to commit armed robbery.
DeWees says no gun was recovered.
"The men had a tool that resembled a gun," DeWess says. "And threatened the employees with it as if it was a gun."
DeWees says no employees were injured during the robbery.
