(UNDATED) - The severe weather that moved through the area today caused a number of customer outages. Currently there are approximately 24,000 customers without power in Northern Kentucky and Ohio and Indiana.
Currently there are approximately 45,000 out in Indiana.
The outage numbers are dropping as Duke Energy crews have begun making repairs. Crews will continue to work throughout the overnight hours. Current outage totals are available on the Duke Energy Web site.
The hardest hit counties include:
* Clermont, Butler and Hamilton in Ohio
* Kenton, Campbell in Kentucky
* Howard, Tippecanoe, Bartholomew, Vigo, Clinton, Fountain, Tipton, Henry, Cass, Monroe, Hendricks, Carroll, Greene, Vermillion, Hancock, Wabash, and Brown counties in Indiana.
·Currently our teams continue to assess damage and make repairs. When that work is complete we will have better estimates of restoration times across our system.
·Damage to the power delivery system includes downed lines and power poles and numerous trees down across the service territory.
Restoration Process
· In major storms, some customers may be without power longer because they live in areas that are temporarily inaccessible due to fallen trees or areas where safety is a concern. Duke Energy, with the help of support services, will work to clear these areas as quickly as possible to allow our crews access to make repairs and restore the power.
·The company's top priority is to restore power to public safety or public health infrastructures before moving to other areas with outages.
· Following critical facilities, utility crews restore service as quickly as possible, starting with the largest lines serving the most people.

·The quickest way for customers in Indiana to report power outages is by calling the appropriate 800 number for each state.

Safety
·Safety remains critically important during restoration efforts. Avoid downed power lines. They should be considered energized and dangerous.
·If there is an individual in your home that requires electricity for medical needs, please consider making alternate arrangements until power is restored.
·Please slow down or move over if you see Duke Energy crews or emergency management crews working along the side the road. You can help make sure the folks working to restore power finish the job and get home to their families safely.
