NARFE Meeting November 20 At Golden Corral

(BEDFORD) - The National Active and Retired Federal Employees Chapter 578 will meet at the Bedford Golden Corral on Wednesday, November 20 at Noon.

The Blue Cross/Blue Shield representative will be at the meeting to discuss 2014 policy changes.

NARFE meetings are open to both retired and current federal employees and their spouses.

At their October 23 meeting, the invocation was given by Renee Majors. The lunch meeting was held until 12:45 p.m. at Golden Corral.

Program Chairperson, Gerry Brown, introduced the guest speaker, Mr. Jim Buher. Buher while working at Indiana Univesity was with a number of Crane employees who were in the Pentagon on September 11 for training when terrorists crashed an airplane into the building.

He members on the edge of their seats, while describing the experience during the attack, their attempt to escape, moving from the complex through the debris and intense heat, without lights, changing from one level of the building to another because the crash had taken out two floors of the Pentagon in the area of the crash.

He gave members, insight into the fact that many more individuals could have been killed if not for recent renovations to the building.

He also explained hose close the country came to losing the Under Secretary of the Navy and his entire group.

Buher felt like angels were watching over the group and guiding them from the carnage. He expressed thanks for the Star of Indiana bus who brought the group home because planes were grounded.

Students were later allowed to return to the Pentagon to meet those angels who assisted in their exit and provide provide proper thank yous to all who helped.

Benediction was provided by Renee Majors and the meeting was adjourned by President Terry.
