Last updated on Wednesday, November 27, 2013

(GREENE CO.) - A Mooresville man accused of speeding through Greene County at 101 miles per hour will be charged with reckless driving.

According to Indiana State Trooper Eric Nash, 22-year-old Nicholas Smith, was driving a full-size pickup truck north on State Road 57 near County Road 400 South when he crested a hill and caught the attention of police.

Nash clocked the vehicle going 101 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone.

Smith told police he was in a hurry to get home because his mother had called him and said a prowler was outside their home and he was concerned for his mother's safety.

Smith was on his way to Mooresville from Petersburg where he had been hunting.

Nash asked Smith why his mother had not dialed 911 to report the possible crime.

Nash then contacted dispatch and sent an officer to the home. When a trooper arrived there no one was hone and no one was around the home and the residence was secure.

Smith was released at the scene, but he is scheduled to appear in Greene County Superior Court on a charge of reckless driving.
