(BEDFORD) - The Indiana Department of Homeland Security honored counties across the state at the annual Emergency Management Alliance of Indiana (EMAI) Conference in Indianapolis last week.

Each county was scored in an Emergency Management Agency (EMA) assessment. County EMAs were scored on their preparedness and response capabilities, plan development, partnerships with other counties and several other criteria. The scores then determined the top county and the most improved county emergency management programs in each of the state's 10 districts.

Lawrence County was named the best overall in District 8 with Brown County scoring as the most improved county in District 8.

The County Emergency Management Program of the Year is Wabash County. The Most Improved Emergency Management Program of the Year is Henry County. These two counties had the highest overall and most improved scores, respectively, in the state.
