(BLOOMINGTON) - Interim Indiana University Police Chief Laury Flint has been named to the position permanently.

Flint became interim chief after the unexpected death of Chief Keith Cash.

An autopsy showed Chief Cash died as a result of aortic stenosis that resulted in his natural death in March.

Flint will oversee a police force of approximately 100 officers on the IU Bloomington campus.

Flint began her career as a student in the IU Police Academy in 1980. On the Bloomington campus, she has worked as a patrol officer, uniform sergeant, uniform lieutenant and deputy chief of police.

She graduated from the IU Police Academy in 1981 and later from IU Bloomington with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice. She is also a 2007 graduate of the FBI National Academy.
