Hunter Rescued From Woods After Falling Ill

Last updated on Wednesday, November 27, 2013

(WASHINGTON CO.) - A hunter who fell seriously ill while hunting in Washington County Monday was rescued - but it took a while.

The Leader Democrat reports, 63-year-old Larry Cass was hunting in a remote location in the eastern portion of the county.

A 911 call Monday afternoon reported a hunter was having a heart attack and CPR was being done.

Washington County Sheriff Deputy Scott Schocke says while Cass suffered a medical issue, it was not believed to have been a heart attack.

It took quite some time and a lot of manpower to move Cass from the woods.

Cass was found about a quarter of a mile into the woods and down a very steep ravine.

Gibson Township and Salem Volunteer Fire Department first responders along with EMS and law enforcement responded to the scene. Cass, who was conscious, was taken to Scott Memorial Hospital for treatment
