(BLOOMINGTON) - Indiana State Excise Police officers arrested 18 people for underage drinking at a Bloomington restaurant Friday night.

Corporal Travis Thickstun says around 10:30 p.m., excise officers went to Ami (formerly Domo Japanese Restaurant), 1500 E. Third Street, to investigate a complaint that the restaurant was selling alcohol to minors. As a result of their investigation, officers arrested 18 minors for illegal consumption of alcohol in two private party rooms on the restaurant's second floor.

Ami was preliminarily charged with furnishing alcohol to minors, unlicensed employees and failing to maintain records of employee permits.

Friday night's arrests follow another violation being filed against Ami by excise officers on Aug. 2. At that time, Ami was charged with sale of alcohol to an 18-year-old girl during an alcohol-compliance check. The restaurant was also cited for a happy hour/reduced prices violation, failure to display permit, unlicensed employees and failing to maintain records of employee permits.

Officers also cited Steve's Trading Post, 2510 W. Third Street, for allowing a minor to loiter and sale of alcohol to a minor after they found three underage patrons. Excise officers cited two of the minors for illegal consumption of alcohol, while the third was jailed on multiple charges.

Taiveon T. Taylor, 19, of Bloomington, was charged with loitering in a tavern, illegal consumption of alcohol, resisting law enforcement, disorderly conduct and intimidation. Taylor was found to have an active arrest warrant for a probation violation.

As the enforcement division of the Indiana Alcohol and Tobacco Commission, the primary mission of the Indiana State Excise Police is to promote public safety by enforcing Indiana's Alcoholic Beverage Code. While excise officers have the authority to enforce any state law, they focus primarily on alcohol, tobacco and related laws.
