Last updated on Wednesday, November 6, 2013

(BEDFORD) - The Bedford North Lawrence High School Marching Stars placed fourth Saturday night in the final round of the MidStates Band Association championships at Northmont High School in Clayton, Ohio.

First-year BNL Band Director Jim Jones says the band's members "had their best run of the season at finals."

The Marching Stars qualified for Saturday night's finals round by placing fifth during preliminaries earlier in the day. Twenty-one bands participated in the preliminaries and the top 10 advanced to the finals round.

The Marching Stars also received the award for best color guard.

The Marching Stars also competed in the Indiana State School Music Association's Scholastic Class A division this season and placed 12th at the ISSMA Scholastic State Finals on Oct. 26. Scholastic Class A started with 25 bands and was narrowed down to 16 for finals.

Jones expressed his gratitude to the school administration and to the community for support of the band program and also acknowledged what he called "a great group of parents" who have helped each week with everything from uniforms to loading the trailer to chaperoning.

The next event for the band will be a concert on Nov. 21. The concert will feature the three concert bands.
A jazz concert is scheduled for Nov. 25. It will be a combined concert featuring the jazz band and the Star Sound jazz choir.
