Bloomington Man Arrested On Meth Charges After Found In Cemetery

Last updated on Thursday, November 7, 2013

(BEDFORD) - Bedford Police arrested a Bloomington man Saturday after police received a report that a man was possibly stealing items from grave sites and was seen slumped over a tombstone in the Green Hill Cemetery.

37-year-old Stephen Hamilton rode his bike through the cemetery fleeing from police and then climbed up a rocky embankment before he was arrested. According to Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley, when officers arrived at the cemetery, Hamilton climbed on his bike and rode to the Knights of Columbus parking lot at 22nd and M street. He then jumped off his bike and ran, climbed up a rocky embankment and ran toward Rainbow Hill Apartments. On his way over the embankment Hamilton fell and officers were able to catch him before he could stand back up.

Once captured, Hamilton did not resist arrest. Officers searched Hamilton, after he was handcuffed and found meth and drug paraphernalia.

He was charged with dealing meth, possession of meth, resisting law enforcement, possession of drug paraphernalia.

Parsley says the quantity of the meth and the way it was packaged, in a "corner baggie," is consistent with the way meth is packaged when a person is selling it.
