Bedford Soccer Players Will Be Playing At Otis In June

Last updated on Monday, November 25, 2013

(BEDFORD) - If the project remains on schedule, Bedford’s young soccer players will be playing at Otis Park next summer.

For the past few months the Bedford Parks Department, with the help of volunteers, has been updating the Otis Park soccer facility. The work ranges from fixing the fields to renovating the rest rooms.

Because of the work, soccer teams practiced and played at Wilson park this season.

Parks Director Mike Mitchell says thanks needs to be given to Steve Turner of Turner Contracting. He donated not only the equipment, but also the work of a couple of employees and did all of the excavation work, thus saving the Parks Department money.

Turner's crews and park employees put in irrigation pipes, reworked the fields and seeded the areas with grass.

Mitchell says the rest room building has a new roof, and its interior is being updated. And a nearby picnic area is being renovated.

Estimating all of the parks costs, including labor and materials, Mitchell says the city will have about $10,000 in the project.

The parks department's budget for 2014 includes money for the re-seeding as well as $40,000 to buy new playground equipment.
