Two Indiana State Troopers Promoted

(BLOOMINGTON) - The Indiana State Police have promoted Corporal Doug Hutchinson to the rank of Sergeant to serve as a squad leader at the Bloomington District.

Sgt. Hutchinson will serve as a supervisor for Troopers in the field, evaluating their performance and also performing necessary day to day operational duties.

Detective Sergeant Paul Suding was also promoted to the rank of First Sergeant to serve as the District Investigative Commander for the Criminal Investigation Division at the Bloomington Post. First Sergeant (F/Sgt) Suding will primarily be responsible for assisting the District Commander to determine crime problems and action plans, supervising and evaluating detectives, maintaining liaison with District criminal justice agencies and reviewing District criminal cases and incident reports among other duties.

Hutchinson, a native of Bedford and a 1998 graduate of Bedford North Lawrence High School, Sgt. Hutchinson also attended Indiana University in Bloomington, IN. from 1998 through 2001. Sgt Hutchinson was a participant in the Indiana University Cadet Program and graduated from the Indiana University Police Academy in 2001. He then served with the Indiana University Police Department until 2002, when he was hired by the Indiana State Police.

In April of 2003, Sgt. Hutchinson, graduated from the Indiana State Police Recruit Academy and was assigned to the Lowell Post. From 2006 to 2007, Sgt. Hutchinson served in the Gaming Division where he was assigned to a riverboat. In 2007, Sgt. Hutchinson requested and was transferred to the Bloomington Post where he patrolled Lawrence and Monroe Counties. Sgt. Hutchinson serves the Bloomington District with his mother Teresa Hutchinson, who has been the Bloomington Post Switchboard Operator since August of 1997.

In 2012, Sgt. Hutchinson graduated from Indiana University with an Associate's Degree in Law Enforcement.

Sgt. Hutchinson's family ties with the Indiana State Police also include Sgt. Ron Thomas (Ret.) whose Indiana State Police career spanned from 1966 - 1988. Hutchinson's grandmother, Loretta Maddox, served as the Bloomington Post Switchboard Operator from 1984 to 1997 and Hutchinson's cousin, Sgt Jason Cobb currently serves the ISP as an Evidence Technician in Area IV in Southeastern Indiana.

Sergeant Hutchinson and his wife reside in Lawrence County.

Suding is a native of Nashville and a 1992 graduate of Brown County High School, F/Sgt. Suding also attended the University of Evansville from 1992 to 1996, graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice. F/Sgt. Suding then served with the Brown County Sheriff's Department from 1998 to 2000, when he was hired by the Indiana State Police.

In June of 2000, F/Sgt. Suding graduated from the Indiana State Police Recruit Academy and was assigned to the Bloomington Post where he primarily patrolled Brown County. In July of 2005, F/Sgt. Suding was promoted to Detective, serving the Bloomington District. Suding had previously served as the Direct Supervisor over the Bloomington Detectives until his promotion on Monday.
