Concern Over Inaccurate Grades And Attendance On Elementary Report Cards

Last updated on Monday, October 14, 2013

(BEDFORD) - North Lawrence Community Schools are looking at modifying the school calendar.

Board member Brad Flinn says the board will begin evaluating the effectiveness of the school calendar.

Board members are receiving complaints from community members and teachers.

Flinn says some of the concerns were from teachers at the elementary school level that say they are required to have report cards out before the beginning of fall break.

Report cards at the middle school and high school are not due until after the break. The earlier deadline did not allow the report cards to accurately reflect student attendance or grades for the entire grading period.

Superintendent Gary Conner said he believed it was important that report cards be sent out so the parent-teacher conferences could be conducted before the week-long fall break.

But Conner said adjustments can be made because of the oversight and the glitch will be fixed next year.
