Shawswick VFD Looking For Donations To Build New Fire Station

Last updated on Wednesday, October 2, 2013

(BEDFORD) - The Shawswick Volunteer Fire Department is seeking donations to purchase a new fire station on Sunny Acres Drive.

Firefighters are asking residents to be generous.

The group is a non-profit organization and relay on donations to operate. All of the funds donated to the department will go to the purchase of a new building and needed equipment.

Chief Bob Brown says imagine it's 2 a.m. in the morning and the members of Shawswick VFD are awakened from a sound sleep. Someone has reported a fire in their home - within minutes professionally trained men and women respond. It happens more often than we would like to think.

Brown says firefighters must be prepared for all emergencies 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

It is the department's responsibility to make sure the best qualified people and adequate updated equipment is available to assist residents in an emergency, he added. Without your contributions the department cannot afford the building to house their equipment and fire engines.

So the department is asking for help and thanks residents for their continued support. donations can be mailed to P.O. Box 951 Bedford.

Residents with questions or comments can contact Brown at 583-6845 or Assistant Chief of Training Brett Roberts at 277-6297.
