(BEDFORD) - Lawrence County Chief Probation Officer Nedra Brock-Fleetwood and Probation officer and sex offender specialist Jennifer Franklin are requiring all sex offenders currently on probation or parole to report to the Lawrence County Probation Department during the hours of Halloween trick-or-treating as part of Operation Safe Halloween 2013.
The 25 to 30 offenders will be watching a treatment movie and going over the changes in the laws about sex offender registry and discuss the terms and conditions of their probation.
Franklin says it is mandatory for offenders who are currently on probation or parole to report, unless they are at work or in treatment.
Offenders are also restricted from:
* Participating in any Halloween activity, they are not permitted to wear any costume, mask or other disguise, and cannot open the door to trick-or-treaters.
* Offenders are required to answer their telephones as probation officers make calls throughout the night, as well as conduct unannounced curfew visits.
* They are not permitted to attend Halloween parties or activities.
* The use of drugs or alcohol is strictly prohibited.
The project includes all of Indiana Department of Correction Parole District 5, which includes Lawrence, Orange, Monroe, Jackson, Brown, Bartholomew, Washington, Crawford, Perry and Harrison counties.
For more information, contact Franklin at 275-3605.
