Sentencing Postponed In Reckless Homicide Case

(BROWNSTOWN) - The sentencing hearing for a local woman who pleaded guilty to reckless homicide in connection with the June 1 death of a Freetown woman has been delayed.

Brianne Elizabeth Maynard, 18, of Seymour, had been scheduled to appear in front of Judge Richard W. Poynter at 3 p.m. Thursday in Jackson Circuit Court.

That hearing, however, was rescheduled for 9:30 a.m. Oct. 29 at the request of Maynard's attorney, Brad Johnson of Seymour.

Maynard pleaded guilty to reckless homicide in connection with the June 1 death of 35-year-old Crystal Engelking, of Freetown.

Maynard, was arrested and was facing four Class C felony charges: reckless homicide, causing death when operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, causing death when operating a motor vehicle with a BAC of .08 or more, and causing death when operating a motor vehicle with a Schedule I and II controlled substance.

The head-on collision happened in the 2000 block of State Road 258 in Jackson County near Cortland.

18-year-old Maynard, was traveling east her car while Engleking, was going west in her pickup truck when the two vehicles collided head-on.
