Salem Man Arrested After Police Find Child Pornography

Last updated on Monday, October 21, 2013

(SALEM) - On Thursday, Salem Police along with U.S. Federal Parole Agents arrested 54-year-old Dean Cart of Salem on a charge of possession of child pornography, a Class D felony.

According to Major Scott Ratts, Cart had been banned from a local Salem business after he had shown a female employee a nude photo on his phone.

Cart, who is a registered sex offender, has been federally convicted of distributing child pornography in 2005. He had been released and was currently residing at 400 Ridgeview Drive in Salem and was on federal probation.

Maj. Ratts spoke to Cart's probation officer, Agent Ross Carothers, and told him the Salem Police Department had dealt with Cart several times over the last few months for various complaints.

Carothers says as part of Cart's condition of probation he was to report any contact with the police and he had not done so.

Agent Carothers says it was also a violation of Cart's probation to possess any pornography images.

On Thursday during a search of Cart's home officers discovered several photos of children in various states of nudity and pornography. He was arrested for possession of child pornography and taken to the Washington County Detention Center.

The investigation continues and Cart could be facing other charges.
