Pumpkins Will Be Launched At Monroe County Fairgrounds

(BLOOMINGTON) - Fall has arrived and pumpkins will soon be flying in the skies over the Monroe County Fairgrounds.

The City of Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department is looking for Launcher teams to send pumpkins soaring through the air in competitions for both accuracy and distance, so get a team together to build and enter a pumpkin launching device.

In addition to the pumpkin launching, there is a pumpkin seed spitting contest, children's activities, live music, and tasty treats. Bring a lawn chair and enjoy the events

Launcher Categories are the Youth Human Powered division for ages 16-years-old and under, Student Human Powered for high school or college students, Adult Human Powered Cannons.

Chemically powered launchers are not permitted.

The cost is $15 to register a team of up to six members and teams must bring six of their own pumpkins to launch, each weighting between five and eight pounds.

Teams must be registered by October 25th.

The event will kick off at 11 a.m. on November 2 with the launch at noon at the Monroe County Fairgrounds, 5700 W. Airport Road.

Spectators can pay $5 per vehicle to watch the launch.

There will also be an antique tractor and engine display, face painting, food for sale and activities for children.

Event partners are WonderLab and the Monroe County Fairgrounds.
