(NASHVILLE) - The Washington Township in Nashville is hoping to implement a tax increase to fund the Brown County Volunteer Fire Department and make it a full-time, paid force.

Washington Township Trustee Bryan Gabriel feels the tax increase will help speed up emergency response times for fire-related calls because there will be firefighters on duty from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. when most volunteer firefighters are at work.

Gabriel, who is in favor of the tax hike, is confident the benefits for the taxpayers are worth the costs.

He says the full-time fire department will lower insurance rates for a business or home in the township.

Jim Rispoli, owner of Caramel Corn Cottage in Nashville, says the tax increase is worth the greater sense of security .
