Martinsville Man Says He Is Not Guilty Of Murdering His Son

Last updated on Wednesday, October 23, 2013

(MARTINSVILLE) - David Carrenden of Martinsville has plead not guilty in the October 13 murder of his son 19-year-old Wyatt Carrender.

He is being held in the Morgan County Jail without bond.

49-year-old Carrender declined a court appointed attorney and advised the court he will hire one.

Carrender initially claimed he shot his son because his son also had weapons in the house, and he feared his son was going to harm others in the residence, according to an affidavit. However police say Carrender shot his son numerous times after an argument over watching a football game.

Carrender's final pretrial conference is scheduled for Jan. 8 with a tentative jury trial date of Feb. 10.
